From the start - at the bridge - you ride downstream 1.7 km to the place where the turnaround is marked, then you ride upstream to Mala riva, where the exit pontoons for the so-called portage have been set up, which, along with the start and finish, is the most interesting part of the race.
Here, the athletes exit and run to carry their boats to the boat launch ramp under the bridge, where entry pontoons will be set up, through which the athletes enter the boat, row upstream to the marked second turning point around the buoy, and continue downstream to the lower turning point. The number of laps that the athletes must complete, as well as the number of boat portages, is determined by the competition rules for each category.
Whitewater kayaking and canoeing are water sports in which competitors compete by rowing boats over designated sections. There are two types of boats for this sport, the kayak and the canoe. The difference is that in kayaking, each rower uses a two-bladed paddle, while in canoeing, each rower uses a single-bladed paddle. To better apply force, it is customary for the canoeist to kneel on one leg while rowing, while the kayaker sits facing the direction of travel, and they are propelled by an oar held loosely in their hands. Whitewater kayaking is a competition of speed, strength, and endurance, and kayaking has been an Olympic sport since 1936.
