Andrija Hebranga Street
Today's Andrija Hebranga Street is located along the harbor on the right bank of the Neretva River, and consists of a series of residential-commercial and exclusively commercial buildings that were built in the period from the end of the 19th to the middle of the 20th century. The most significant among them are the Jelavić and Paronos houses, which, along with their simplicity and massiveness of design, also have facade decorations typical of Art Nouveau architecture and date from the beginning of the 20th century. The ground floor usually housed business premises for various commercial and catering facilities, and it is interesting that the Vrgorac hotel was also located on this street, which has not been preserved to this day. The Popovac house, which is the earliest example of modernist residential architecture from the area of the city of Metković, dates back to the period between the two world wars. It is characterized by a simple facade design without any decorations and the lack of the usual gable roof, which was replaced by a flat roof, and the desire for functionality. It was built according to the design of the architect Vilk Zuppa in 1932, and today the Archives Collection Center for the Neretva Valley area is located on its ground floor.
