King Tomislav Square
King Tomislav Square is the main city square, which dates back to 1871 when its development began, and its first name was Plokata . It occupied an area of 3,000 m², and is surrounded by various residential, commercial and public buildings, as well as the City Park and the Neretva River. The most significant buildings on the square that have survived to this day are the building of today's Narona Hotel, the Golijan House, the City Park and examples of traditional architecture dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which display decorations typical of the Art Nouveau style on their facades. The residential and commercial building of the former Metkovic trading company Razvitak dates from the time immediately after World War II , and bears the characteristics of modern architecture. In 2009, King Tomislav Square was renovated and once again became a place for the people of Metkovic to gather and socialize and a venue for various events, which it had been in the past, especially as a fairground for the feast of St. Elijah, the patron saint of the city.
