Port Bridge
Although the earliest settlement of Metković was probably located on the left bank of the Neretva on the slopes of Predolac, with the development of the port of Metković from the 18th century and the expansion of the settlement to the right bank of the river, the need for its bridging grew. Thus, in the second half of the 19th century, a wooden bridge was built, and not long after, in 1878, the first wooden bridge was built for the needs of the army during the occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. And with the development of the settlement and the port, there was an increasing need to build a bridge that could meet traffic needs, so in 1895, the first iron bridge, known as the Elizabeth Bridge, was built, after Elizabeth, the wife of Emperor Franz Joseph. The bridge consisted of a stone supporting structure and three arches connected by rivets. With the renovation in 1973, the Metković Port Bridge gained its current appearance, using two earlier supporting pylons for a continuous steel structure
