SIGNIFICANT LANDSCAPE ŠIBANICA – PREDOLAC

Significant landscape Šibanica – Predolac

The Šibanica-Predolac significant landscape is an area known as the Predolac and Šibanica elevation park-forest, which rises above the city of Metković. More than 60 hectares of this area have been protected since 1968. Although most of the area is the result of afforestation in the period after World War II, and on several occasions some parts of this area have been destroyed by fires, this significant landscape still represents the most valuable forest complex in the area of the city of Metković. The most numerous plant species in this area are Aleppo pine, cypress, holm oak (holm oak) and numerous other representatives of the Mediterranean flora, some of which are protected. The saddle between Predolac and Šibanica is significant for bird migration, but their intensity has decreased because the areas of Hutovo Blato on one side and Koševo on the other have now been converted into agricultural areas. However, this significant landscape is still an important habitat for numerous animal species, especially songbirds.
